Ranchi, Dec 1: The Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra is set to organise its 32nd convocation on December 4.

S Somnath, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), will arrive as the chief guest on the occasion. The chancellor-cum-Jharkhand governor Ramesh Bais will be present as a special guest.

The institute plans to give degrees to a total of 1532 students of which 859 are from UG, 598 are from PG and 75 will be PhD holders from the session 2018-22 on the occasion. At the same time, 11 gold medalists from different UG departments will be awarded.

The media cell of the institute further informed at a press conference that the students will be dressed in traditional Kurukh attires. It was decided after instructions from VC Indranil Manna, who stated that the tribal identity of the state should be a part of the traditional initiation ceremony. Along with the traditional dress, the students will wear the bandi ‘Kukhena’ based on the cultural artwork of the Oraon tribe. Keeping in view the number of students, local artists have been given the responsibility of preparing Kukhena.

Along with this, the institute also has plans to organise a blood donation camp on the occasion for Thalesemia patients. The aim behind this is to spread awareness about the medical condition and the importance of blood donation. Notably, students and teachers will be donating blood on the occasion.
