Chennai, Dec 10: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said that Cyclone Mandous’ landfall procedure was complete. On Friday evening, Mandous made landfall off Mamallapuram, causing moderate to heavy rains in coastal Tamil Nadu.
Following the landfall, the cyclone is expected to diminish into a deep depression and then a depression on Saturday.
“Cyclone MANDOUS rear sector has moved into the land and the landfall process has been completed. It is very likely to move nearly west northwestwards and gradually weaken into a deep depression during next 2 hours and into a depression by noon of 10th December,” IMD said in a tweet at 4:48 am.

“The process of cyclonic storm’s landfall has started, it is going on,” Head-IMD Regional Meterological Centre, S Balachandran told PTI.
People were asked not to leave until Cyclone Mandous began to weaken, according to the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC). According to the report, about 65 trees fell in three hours, and low-lying areas are being treated for water stagnation using motor pumps.

Notably, members of the National Disaster Response Force are prepared. MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, stated on Friday that all precautions had been taken in light of Cyclone Mandous.
Meanwhile, portion of the ‘permanent ramp’, that was installed at Marina Beach in Chennai to help differently-abled people, gets damaged in the strong winds and rough sea due to the cyclone, as reported by ANI. The ramp was inaugurated on November 27.

A wall also collapsed in T Nagar area of Chennai and caused serious damage to three cars that were parked near it. However, nobody was present in the cars at the time of the incident.
