Hazaribag, Dec 13: A court in Hazaribag today sentenced Congress’ Ramgarh MLA Mamta Devi to five years in jail in a case related to firing outside the gate of a power plant in Ramgarh’s Gola in 2016 in which two people had died.
The court sentence also sentenced thirteen others in this case including Rajeev Jaiswal, who was booked in the Arms Act, for three years and imposed a fine too. All sentences will run concurrently.
The complainant’s (case number 79/2016) lawyer Atmaram Choudhary confirmed the judgement. He said that everybody got 2 years sentence under Section 148, 2 years under Section 332, 5 years under Section 333 and 5 years under Section 307.
Earlier, since the early morning on Tuesday, the court campus was packed with MLA’s supporters. Even the relatives of all 13 accused were present. Two children of Mamata including her daughter and 3.5-month-old son were also brought there.
Ahilya Devi, the mother of Rajeev Agrawal who is a popular leader of Ramgarh, said her son was trapped by his rivals. “He had only raised his voice to ensure justice for people but was trapped,” she added.
“We will challenge the case in the upper court. This doesn’t mean that everything ends here,” added one of the supporters of the MLA.
