Tata Steel flags-off IEC van for leprosy awareness in Dhanbad villages

Dhanbad, Dec 16: Tata Steel Jharia division on Saturday flagged off IEC (information, education and communication) van for special health awareness of people in the Dhanbad district.

Flagging off the van at the Tata Central Hospital in Jamadoba, general manager Sanjay Rajoria said that the objective of the program is to fight for the reduction of stigmas related to leprosy and elephantiasis and the detection of new cases in eight blocks of the Dhanbad district in 60 days.

The IEC van will engage in different events throughout the awareness campaign including pamphlet distribution, group discussions, school health education programmes, exhibitions at haats and bazaars and film screenings by health educators.

“This IEC van is well-equipped with films, songs, slogans and exhibitions. It will cover 3 to 4 villages each day,” the GM informed.

Dr Alok, chief medical officer at Tata Central Hospital, Jamadoba, Mayank Sekhar, Chief of Sijua group, Dr Komal Singh, senior consultant (Gynecology), Dr Ashwini Singh Rathod, senior registrar (Radiology) and others were present on the occasion.

The official said a new digital X-Ray unit and new analysers have also been inaugurated today at Tata Central Hospital, Jamadoba which has a dual detector high-frequency latest machine MARS 40 with IITV for fluoroscopy from Allengers medical system.

This machine will reduce the X-ray time per patient to 30 seconds from registration to filming. The high-power machine can handle large volumes of patients in the shortest possible time giving high-quality digital images on a computer screen which can be accessed almost instantly.
