New Delhi, Dec 25: India defeated Bangladesh by three wickets in the second Test on Sunday to win the two-match series on Christmas.
India’s early collapse while trying to reach the 145-run objective was unfortunate. Mehidy struck three times to maintain Bangladesh’s chances of tying the two-test series as India recorded 45/4 at the day’s end.
Shakib Al Hasan’s controversial dismissal of acting captain KL Rahul for two continued his series struggles. Mehidy then quickly sent Cheteshwar Pujara (number six), Shubman Gill (number seven), and Virat Kohli (number one) back to the dressing room. Axar Patel was moved up to position four in India, while Jaydev Unadkat served as the night watchman to finish the day.
Unadkat was trapped on Day 4 after Shakib caught him in front for 13 seconds. As a result of the dismissal, the hosts lost Rishabh Pant (9) and Axar (34) in the span of nine balls.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s second innings score of 231 was made possible by the fifty-hit efforts of Litton Das and Zakir Hasan. Zakir, who had a century in the first Test, managed to hold one end while Shakib and other early wickets fell to Bangladesh. Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, and Mohammed Siraj of India’s pace three made sure to keep the hosts on their toes.
Despite Litton’s best efforts, Siraj bowled him for 73 just as he was about to score large. After taking care of the tail-enders, Axar and Ashwin finished with three and two wickets, respectively.
