New Delhi, Dec 29: India has made the RT-PCR test mandatory for passengers coming in from China, Japan and four other countries from January 1, 2023, amid the rise in coronavirus cases in some countries.

Prior to departure, passengers from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand must send their reports to the Air Suvidha website. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the tests must be done within 72 hours of arriving in India.

The action coincides with an increase in Covid-19 cases in China and other East Asian nations.

The minister stated that this requirement is in addition to the random 2% tests that are administered to all foreign passengers on all arriving international planes upon their arrival in India, regardless of their point of departure.

The government has issued an alert, tightened Covid standards, and encouraged states and Union territories to be ready for anything due to an increase in coronavirus cases in some nations.

The number of coronavirus infections in India rose to 268 while the number of active cases reached 3,552, according to figures provided on Thursday by the Union Health Ministry.

According to the ministry, the weekly positivity rate was 0.17 percent and the daily positivity rate was 0.11 percent.
