Hazaribag, Jan 4: Extreme cold exposure is believed to have led to the death of a birhor woman who was found dead on Tuesday morning in Chatra district. Relatives term it a cold death, they said 32-year-old Parwa devi was alone at home taking care of three children as husband went to another state to work, and she died there.
Parwa died in Tayakarm village under Nawada panchayat in Kunda block.
One Santosh Parhia said Parwa and her husband Citu Parhia facing economic problems. Due to this, he took a loan from a contractor who took him to another state to work there as a daily wage labourer. He said she even lacked warm clothes for the blanket which resulted in her death. Out of her three children, one is only a few months old.
Local representatives admitted getting twenty blankets from block officials but said they were not knowing about Parwa’s condition. Kunda block development officer Khagesh Kumar said blankets were distributed among the needy. He said Parwa died of excessive drinking of alcohol.
Talking to Lagatar24.com, Kumar said he went to Parwa’s village this morning to know the facts related to her death. Her neighbours and others in the village told us that she was in a habit of drinking liquor everytime. On Dec 31, she drank liquor and again on Jan 1 and Jan 2 as well from morning to night. Drunk heavily, she remained under the sky for the entire night resulting in her death, added Kumar. He said the body’s last rite was done and so no postmortem was done.
He said they have provided food grains to the family and came to know that her husband is also on his way to the village.
“We will provide all required help to the family,” he added.
