Ranchi, Jan. 4: The Jharkhand High Court today sought a reply in the matter of increasing holding tax from the state government.
A division bench headed by acting Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh gave the direction while hearing a petition of Gaurav Bagrai challenging increase in holding tax.
Asst town planner appointment
In another case, the high court directed the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) to take instruction from the state government in the matter of appointment of town planner. The matter reached before the division bench after a single judge bench dismissed a petition demanding cancellation of the JPSC examination organised for recruitment of assistant town planners.
The petitioner had demanded cancellation on the ground that as many as 20 candidates who qualified in the recruitment test for assistant town planner did not have the requisite degree till the last date of applying for the test.
Kanke MLA’s advocate warned
In another case, the high court warned Kanke MLA Samri Lal’s advocate Amar Kumar Sinha of dire consequences for changing the witness at the last moment without informing the court. The court was irked with the lawyer’s move while hearing an election petition filed by Suresh Baitha challenging the election of Lal in 2019 assembly poll from Kanke assembly constituency.
