Daltonganj, Jan 9: The superintendent of police Palamu, Chandan Kumar Sinha has announced plans to adopt five Tuberculosis (TB) patients. Sources said this is a rare move of any senior police officer in the fight against TB.

Confirming this, the Palamu district TB officer Dr Anil Kumar Srivastav said, “We appreciate the gesture by SP Chandan Kumar Sinha who not only announced to adopt fiveTB patients but has asked me to get its formalities, like filling of adoption form,to be done today itself.”

Dr Srivastav said they believe more police officers will like to adopt TB patients following the footsteps of their chief.

He said they have instances when Sinha had donated blood to road accident victims following which many cops began to donate blood during critical demand time.

Lagatar24.com spoke to the SP today to know how he got this feeling of adopting TB patients.

Sinha said, “I along with my wife Kanchan Singh, deputy director state social welfare department, had gone to the Medinirai medical college hospital in Daltonganj on Sunday where she distributed sweaters, socks and caps among little over three dozen new born babies and there itself the district TB officer Dr Srivastav came to me urging me to be a ‘Ni Akshay Mitra’ to which I immediately consented to adopt 5 TB patients.”

Sinha said, “Kanchan Singh also motivated me to join hands with the team against the TB.”

He said he would digitally fund the food baskets, no matter where he is posted or how preoccupied he remains as an IPS officer.

On being reminded that children TB patients are less adopted in comparison to the adult TB patients to which SP said, “I would like to have this detail of it from the district TB officer Dr Anil Kumar Srivastav.”

Moreover, Srivastav said he had told the SP about a monthly expenditure of Rs 4,500 only for five TB patients. Minimally this food basket offered to the TB patients is for six months only.

A ‘Ni Akshay Mitr’ is to offer a food basket containing pulse, gram, peanuts, jaggery mustard oil and Sattu or milk and horlicks.
