New Delhi, Jan 14: To review the current framework relating to the categorization of judicial proceedings according to topic categories, the Supreme Court on Friday established a 6-member ‘Case Categorization Advisory Committee’ under the direction of Justice PS Narasimha.
Sunil Chauhan, additional registrar of the Supreme Court, will be the committee’s secretary.
Senior Attorney Aruneshwar Gupta, attorneys-on-record K Parameshwar, Gaurav Agrawal, and Vanshaja Shukla are the other members of the committee.
The broad mandate of the committee is as follows:
- Examine the existing framework of subject categories and sub-categories;
- Suggest changes and suggest a scheme for categorisation of matters;
- Identify overlapping subject categories/ sub-categories;
- Identify and suggest renaming/ merging existing subject categories and/ or sub-categories;
- Identify those subject categories/ sub-categories which have become redundant;
- Propose addition of new subject categories/ sub-categories;
- Suggest mechanism to map existing categories with proposed change in subject category/ sub-category.
The committee shall submit its report in a month.
