Jamshedpur, Jan 18:  A hostel meant for married research scholars will soon come up at the Adityapur-based National Institute of Technology (NIT Jamshedpur) in an attempt to ensure work-life balance.

Notably, The construction of the hostel is expected to complete by the end of this year and the project will entail an investment of over Rs 25 crore.

Officials of the tech cradle said the NIT board of governors has already approved the hostel for married research scholars, meaning they would be able to stay at self-contained units with their spouses.

Moreover, the hostel will have 100 units or flatlets, each comprising two rooms, a kitchen, a toilet and a bathroom.

Currently, no space exists on the NIT campus for married research scholars to bring their spouses.

Notably, over 50 PhD scholars come to NIT every year to complete their senior research fellowships, getting a monthly stipend of Rs 32,000 during their five-year stay.

The hostel project will help resolve the problem of accommodation for the spouses of married research scholars.

Sources said a detailed project report for the project has been prepared. The project will be executed by the central public works department.

Furthermore, research scholars are happy with the decision.

“I am required to stay away from the institution. Every day I commute 7 Km to reach the NIT campus. Once this hostel comes up, it will be a boon for married scholars like us. Family life is also important,” said a woman research scholar who hails from Patna in Bihar.
