New Delhi, Jan 18: Dutee Chand, the current 100-meter national champion and fastest female runner in India, has been temporarily suspended after testing positive for drug abuse.

An out-of-competition testing process produced a positive test result. Selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMs), a family of medicinal substances having anabolic effects akin to those of anabolic steroids but with lesser androgenic (creating male traits) properties, were found in Dutee’s body.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) website states that due to their anabolic qualities and capacity to trigger androgen receptors in muscle and bone, which results in bone and muscle growth, these prohibited drugs have the potential to be misused for performance improvement in sports.

In Gujarat during September to October of 2022, Dutee participated in the National Games. She ran in the 200-meter dash, but she was unable to make it to the final. In the 100-meter dash final, she came in sixth.

She won silver in the women’s 100 m and 200 m races in the Asian Games, where she competed in 2018. In 2013, 2017, and 2019 Dutee also won bronze at the Asian Championships.
