New Delhi, Jan 18: BJP MP Tejasvi Surya opened the emergency exit of the IndiGo plane by mistake, said Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday.

Earlier, Tejasvi Surya had apologised for the same while he received massive backlash from the Opposition who said that he had put the lives of all passengers at risk by doing so.

Several Opposition leaders questioned if any action was taken against him as opening the emergency exit is a ‘punishable offence’. Scindia said, “He has already apologised. The door was opened by him by mistake. Whatever the opposition is saying. I can’t reply to that.”

He further added that people should look at the facts and the fact is that the door was opened by mistake and the leader has even apologised for the same.

According to the official, the flight was delayed by over two hours as the aircraft took for its destination, Tiruchirapalli, the passenger ‘rested his hand on the door unlocking the exit.

Therefore, after writing an apology letter he was allowed to fly in the same aircraft.

As per standard operating procedure (SOP) the incident was logged, said the airline not revealing the name. A senior official of the aviation regulate directorate general of civil aviation said the event was duly reported and that safety was not compromised, the right-hand emergency exit was opened by mistake.
