New Delhi, Jan 25: Four-storey residential building collapsed in the Hazratganj area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh the previous evening. So far 2 people die in this incident whereas 14 people were rescued.

The deceased person has been identified as Begum Haider, 72, and Uzma. While Haider is the mother of Samajwadi Party (SP) spokesperson Zishan Haider, Uzma is the daughter of a senior journalist.

Both Haider and Uzma were in critical condition after they were pulled out from the wreckage. Both were rushed to the hospital where they breathed their last.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) has said all the injured survivors are going under treatment at Civil Hospital. All the survivors had suffered superficial injuries and trauma due to shock.

Deputy Chief Minister Pathak reached the spot and said that “Building collapsed suddenly. Three dead bodies have been found and sent to the hospital. NDRF and fire brigade personnel are present at the spot, rescue operation is underway.”

Despite the fact, the cause of the collapse has not been discovered, officials have said the building – comprising as many as 12 flats and two penthouses on the top floor – was illegal and the layout map was not passed by the builder.

Lucknow divisional commissioner (Ms) Roshan Jacob said action will be taken against the builder in this regard and he has ordered to file FIR against the builder Yazdan and the apartment owner Mohammad Tareef and Nawazish Shahid.

Uttar Pradesh DGP DS Chauhan has also echoed Jacob, adding that the ‘strictest action’ will be taken against whoever is found responsible for the incident.

According to an official statement, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took apprehension of the accident and instructed them to send police officers, SDRF and NDRF teams on the spot. The Chief Minister directed the officials of the district administration to take the injured to the hospital immediately for their proper treatment and instructed all the hospitals to stay on alert.

The police are present at the spot and rescue operations are underway.
