Kolkata: Popular film actress and former TMC MP Koel Mallick joined the BJP on Monday, a day after the party announced her as its Rajya Sabha candidate from West Bengal.
Joins Party at Kolkata Event
Mallick formally took up BJP membership at an event held in Kolkata. She had earlier rebelled against Mamata Banerjee and resigned her Rajya Sabha seat as a TMC MP. Her real name is Rukmini Mallick, though she is widely known by her screen name Koel Mallick.
Set to Become Rajya Sabha MP for Second Time in a Year
Notably, this will be the second time in a year that Mallick is set to become a Rajya Sabha member. She enjoys considerable popularity in Bengal and is highly active on social media, with more than 3 million followers on Instagram.
