Ahmedabad, Feb 14: Gujarat Police have initiated a probe into the alleged suicide of a 59-year-old doctor and is seeking to verify if two people listed by him in an alleged suicide note are BJP Lok Sabha member Rajesh Chudasama and his father Naran Chudasama, officials said on Monday.
The doctor identified as Atul Chag, was found dead at his home in Veraval on Sunday. Dr Atul Chag owned a multi-storey MDA hospital at Veraval’s Tower Chowk on S T Bus Stand road. He stayed in the same building where he ran a hospital and his body was found by his staff. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his bedroom.
An alleged one-line suicide note in the Gujarati language was recovered from the crime scene that blamed Rajesh and Naran for his death, M U Masi, Veraval deputy superintendent of police (in-charge), said. The Gir-Somnath police is investigating the matter and has sent the note to FSL for analysing of the handwriting.
The victim’s relatives suspected that the names in the suicide note referred to Rajesh Chudasama, sitting MP from Junagadh-Gir Somnath and his father.
“We are investigating the matter. The note does not give details of the persons named. We have presently registered a case of accidental death. We have consulted a handwriting expert to verify the suicide note,” Masi said.
Dr Jalpan Rupapara, a friend of the deceased also alleged that the latter had lent a huge sum of money amounting to Rs 2-2.5 crore to the father-son duo.
“I have known the doctor closely for the past two years. He had told me that he was under tremendous stress as Rajesh and Naran had not returned his money. I am very sure that the names refer to the father-son duo,” he added.
However, despite repeated attempts Rajesh could not be reached for a comment.
Further details awaited.
