Ranchi, Feb 16: Narcotics cell of Jalandhar police arrested a Jharkhand-based youth with 8 kg opium. He has been identified as Ram Charan, a resident of Gader in Chatra.
The primary investigation suggested that he was being used as a drug peddler. The youth had reached Jalandhar with opium but the anti-narcotics cell of the police was arrested before he could deliver the opium.
The breakthrough came after police officials received secret information regarding the movement of the youth with a consignment of drugs and became alert.
“Getting information regarding the movement of drug peddlers, police blocked T point of Railway Colony near Guru Nanak Pura. As soon as the youth reached there, the police caught him,” a police official said.
This is not the first time a Jharkhand-based drug peddler was arrested. Earlier, a youth from the state was caught with three and a half kilos of opium at Y point near Bhagat Singh Colony in Maqsudan.
Explaining how the youth came into the business of drugs, a police official said that the young man used to work as a labourer in Jalandhar and while there he somehow came in touch with the smugglers of Jharkhand and started working as a peddler.
