Ranchi, Feb 19: Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) has obtained a patent for a herbal formulation development for the second time. Dr. Kaushal Kumar, head of the department of Forestry and Utilization in the Forestry Faculty of BAU, obtained a patent certificate from the Intellectual Property Office of the Government of India on February 16.

According to the letter, Dr. Kaushal Kumar’s innovation titled “A New Synergistic Topical Applications Formulation for Joint Pains, Inflammation, Skin Care and the Method of Producing the Same” has been granted a patent by the Indian Intellectual Property Office. The patent was approved on the grounds of its innovative formulation.

After analysing the proper patent application and hearing on January 18, 2023, it was awarded the entry of patent granted in the patent register under sections 12 and 13 of the Patent Act, 1970, and the rules made on that basis.

According to Dr. Kaushal Kumar, this herbal formulation is extremely beneficial for the skin along with relieving joint inflammation and pain externally. It has been found to be much more beneficial than the general joint medicine available in the market. Products like balm, lotion, spray and cream can be prepared from this herbal formulation.

It will be made available in the drug market by the name of “BAU Birsol” by the university. In the year 2021 also, the herbal formulation “BAU Birsin” prepared from the Charai Godhwa tree got patent approval. The University is preparing a policy for the technology transfer of both herbal formulations.

Dr. Kumar, meeting Vice-Chancellor Dr. Omkar Nath Singh, gave detailed information about this success and expressed his gratitude for his efficient leadership and successful guidance. The Vice-Chancellor congratulated and expressed happiness over Dr. Kumar’s herbal formulation invention being approved for a patent.

The Vice-Chancellor termed the approval of the patent for herbal formulation invention for the second consecutive time in the last two years as a historic achievement for the university. This achievement is said to give a new identity to BAU and prove useful in ranking improvement.

The Vice-Chancellor said that this achievement shows that the University is doing important work at the national level in the direction of the latest inventions. BAU will soon prepare a format for the technology transfer of intellectual property and patents in collaboration with the country’s leading pharmaceutical company, so that the benefits of this latest research technology of BAU can reach the common man.
