New Delhi, Feb 19: A day after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said an opposition unity in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls would be able to trim down the ruling party to less than 100 seats, the BJP took a swipe at the JD(U) leader’s remark.

Taking a dig at the JD(U) de-facto leader, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, told ANI, “What has happened to Bihar CM Nitish Kumar? He isn’t able to handle Bihar and the state is in trouble. There is chaos in his party. Congress isn’t giving him any lift. Nitish ji, you want to become like Deve Gowda or Inder Kumar Gujral who lasted for five-six months?” he asked.

On Nitish Kumar’s ‘below 100 seat’ remark, Ravi Shankar Prasad took a taunt and said, “Din me sapne dekhne me koi burai hai kya?” (Is there any problem if you daydream?)

The Bihar chief minister on Saturday said that the Congress must not relax on its glory and make use of the momentum gained during Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in forging a coalition of parties opposed to the BJP.

The JD(U) leader asserted that such a formation must take shape at the earliest so that the BJP, which has a beast majority in the Lok Sabha with more than 300 seats, could be bundled out for less than 100 in the general elections in 2024.

Notably, in August last year, Nitish Kumar walked out of the NDA camp and ditched the BJP only to join hands with the Grand Alliance in Bihar. Since then, he has been meeting various leaders from like-minded parties to unite a front to take on the BJP in the upcoming general elections.

Not much after unification with ‘Mahagathbandhan’, he met political leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, CPI(M) secretary general Sitaram Yechury, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Telangana CM KCR. However, the 71-year-old has made clear that he has no plans to contest for the PM post.
