New Delhi, Feb 22: An Air India Delhi-bound flight from New York made an emergency landing at Sweden’s capital Stockholm after technical glitches were detected on Wednesday.
Air India flight AI 106 was carrying around 300 passengers. All the passengers are safe. There was panic among passengers after the cockpit crew announced that the flight was being diverted to an airport in Sweden due to a technical glitch. A large number of fire engines were deployed at the airport as the flight made an emergency landing.

The flight, which was operated with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, was diverted due to an oil leak in one of the engines.
Air India official said that the flight was diverted to Stockholm after reporting a technical snag. Several fire tenders rushed towards the aircraft on arrival at Stockholm airport.
“Air India flight AI 106 from Newark to Delhi developed a technical snag and was diverted to Sweden (Stockholm) airport safely,” said an Air India official.
“Fear gripped the nearly 300 passengers on board as a large number of fire engines rushed to Stockholm airport,” the official added.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that the Air India flight reported an oil leak from the engine.
“Air India flight Newark to Delhi flight diverted to Sweden’s Stockholm due to an oil leak from the aircraft engine,” said DGCA.
During the ground inspection, oil was seen coming out from the drain mast of engine two, the official said, adding that the inspection is in progress.
Earlier on Monday, an Air India flight from New York to Delhi (AI 102) was diverted to London due to a medical emergency onboard. After landing at Heathrow airport, the passenger was rushed to a hospital in London.
