MF AHMAD

Daltonganj, Feb 24: The Jharkhand state disaster management authority will not provide any compensation to the victims of the Palamu violence, which took place on February 15.

The secretary of the state disaster management authority Amitabh Kaushal said, “There is no provision of relief or compensation coming from the state disaster management for victims who are not of any of the natural disasters.”

The Panki Circle Officer (CO) Nirbhay Kumar said, “Under the order of the Palamu DC Anjaneyulu Dodde, we have done the damage assessment of around 20 victims who claimed to have borne the brunt of the communal disturbances that rocked Panki on February 15.”

The CO further said, “Our damage assessment included destruction or damage or arson of 6 shops, 2 houses,  2 bikes, 1 car, 1 generator set, the smashing of windscreens of cars and bikes etc.”

“Nowhere during our damage assessment I or my team faced any problem as victims were all cooperative and we were most neutral and professional in our job to assess,” he added.

Notably, a damage assessment of the riot victims of Panki has been done. Police sources said there was widespread damage to household property and moveable property too.

The damage assessment has been done for relief to the riot victims as part of the CBM (confidence building measure) and started to relive at peace.

The damage assessment report would be sent to the Home for a grant of relief.
