Dhanbad, March 21: A POCSO court of Dhanbad on Tuesday awarded a 20-years jail term to a minor rape accused Kanchan Hazra (29) in three years old case. Special judge of POCSO Court Prabhakar Singh while announcing the punishment, imposed a fine of Rs 5000.

The additional public prosecutor (APP) said that the court had held the accused Kanchan guilty in the case yesterday (March 20) and reserved the quantum of punishment for today.

As per the case filed in Barwadda police station of the district on November 11, 2020, the accused Kanchan Hazra, a resident of Fufwadih under Barwadda police station raped the 14-year-old victim when she had gone to attend the call of nature in the evening at around 6.30 pm.

The family members got the girl admitted at medical college hospital for the treatment. On the statement of victim girl Barwadda police lodged FIR.

On December 20, 2020 police filed a charge sheet against Kanchan Hazra in the case. APP said a total of eleven witnesses were cross-examined during the trial.
