Daltonganj, March 27: Around 35 people have fallen sick following a suspected case of food poisoning in the Latehar district.

These people had partaken in gram and jaggery during the Sarhul festival. Within hours they had upset bowels.

The medical officer in charge of the community health centre at Chandwa, Dr N K Pandey, said these people had bouts of vomiting, loose motion, stomachache and fever.

He said it appears to be a case of food poisoning. 18 of the sick are undergoing treatment in the community health centre at Chandwa while 11 are at the sub-health centre at Sasang.

A couple of others having the same symptoms have been treated and given oral rehydration and, on their pleas, allowed to go their homes, said Dr Pandey. The remaining persons were also feeling better after the medical attention and went home.

A senior health official of the Sadar Hospital Latehar Ved Prakash said medicines and bottles of saline etc are available at the community health centre and sub-health centre and the treatment is underway.

He added that the doctors are monitoring the situation. A team of doctors has visited villages namely Aan, Purana Kita, Siknee, Lalgarha etc where cases of sickness have been reported.
