Bihar violence: Nitish Kumar chairs high-level meet, asks police to be on alert

CM also announces an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakhs for the next of kin of dead

Patna, April 2: A high-level conference was presided over by Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, to discuss the violence that broke out following the Ram Navami parade in different areas of the state.

The chief minister gave the police orders to be on high alert, to spot the anti-social elements, and to take action against them in order to preserve peace and order during the conference. Also, authorities have been requested to keep an eye on people who propagate misinformation and to take the necessary action to stop it.

District magistrates and superintendents of police from every district are to participate in an instant video conference with the chief secretary and the director general of police. The next of kin of the dead would get an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 5 lakh, according to the chief minister.

The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), which include the CRPF, SSB, and ITBP, have despatched a total of ten companies (or around 1,000 men) to Bihar in response to reports of skirmishes on March 31 in Nalanda’s Biharsharif and Sasaram in the Rohtas district, according to news agency ANI.
