Patna: Visitors to the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park in Patna have good news, as the toy train is set to return to the zoo, with the railways having completed preparations and plans to start running it from January.
Train to Be Built in Samastipur, Styled Like Vande Bharat
The toy train will be manufactured at the Samastipur workshop and given a look similar to the Vande Bharat Express. It will have one engine and four coaches, and the tender process has been completed.
Track Rerouted to Protect Zoo’s Greenery
Preserving the zoo’s greenery is also a priority for the management, so a fresh survey was conducted before laying the tracks and the route was redrawn. The track will now run alongside trees, ensuring that trees such as the kusum are not harmed. Route marking for the new track has been done, bushes along the path have been cleared and the old railway track has been removed. Work on laying the new track is expected to begin within a week.
Sharp Turns Were the Biggest Challenge
The biggest challenge was providing enough space for the train to turn, as bends of about 60 degrees were needed, and four spots in the zoo posed difficulties. These were resolved during the second survey.
Service Was Halted After Repeated Derailments
The toy train ran at Patna Zoo until 2015 but had to be shut down because of repeated derailments. The plan now is to restart it on a freshly prepared track.
