New Delhi, April 5: In advance of Hanuman Jayanti, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an advisory to all states on maintaining peace and order.

The MHA advised the states to ensure a calm celebration of the holiday and keep an eye out for anything that would jeopardize social cohesion.

“MHA has issued an advisory to all states in preparation for Hanuman Jayanti. The governments are encouraged to ensure the maintenance of law and order, peaceful observance of the festival, and monitoring of any factors that could disturb communal harmony in society,” the Office of the Home Minister mentioned in a statement.

The development follows clashes that broke out during Ram Navami celebrations in West Bengal and neighbouring Bihar. Around Ram Navami, there were documented cases of violence, arson, and stone-pelting in these two states.

Following the confrontations, Section 144 prohibition orders were also put into effect in several parts of West Bengal.

The Calcutta High Court’s acting Chief Justice Bench has also directed the deployment of central force personnel in a few vulnerable regions of the state prior to Hanuman Jayanti.

To preserve law and order, the court instructed the state to ask paramilitary forces for aid.

“If the intelligence department of the state was alert, such violence would not have happened. It also instructed that no political leader will give any provoking statement to the media,” the court said.

On the Purnima Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra, Hanuman Jayanti will be celebrated. The Hindu holiday of Hanuman Jayanti, also known as Hanuman Janmotsav, will be observed tomorrow, April 6, 2023. It is said that Lord Hanuman is a manifestation of Lord Shiva.
