Jamshedpur, May 17: MGM thana on Wednesday got a new address after senior SP, Prabhat Kumar inaugurated it ceremoniously.
Earlier the police station was accommodated at a dingy building on the premises of MGM medical college premises at Dimna in Mango. But now it has been shifted to a moderately-looking double-storeyed building at Mukhiyadanga village — about five km away from Dimna.
Unlike the earlier location, the MGM police station is located along NH-33, away from the hustle and bustle of the steel city.
Moreover, the new location will serve the purpose of better patrolling on the NH-33 while making the people in distress to approach the police station easily.
The senior SPOC, Prabhat Kumar said the relocation of the MGM thana was long overdue.
“Though the jurisdiction of the MGM thana starts from Dimna Chowk upto Narga — over 25 km away towards Ghatsila, the people residing under this police station were compelled to travel a long distance for reaching the police station. Police response to any distress call would also be delayed accordingly, ” observed the senior police officer while inaugurating the new thana building.
Rural SP, Mukesh Lunayat, City SP, K Vijay Shankar along with several other police officers were present on the occasion as the MGM thana OC, Raju started officiating from the new thana building at Mukhiyadanga.

It may be mentioned here that when naxalism was at its peak two decades ago, the administration had planned to shift the MGM thana from Dimna to Bhilaipahadi – closer to Ghatsila in view of making the anti-insurgency operation in the rebel-infested areas more effective and for the convenience of the local residents. A multi-storeyed building for the thana had also started taking it safely. But the project was dropped midway.
