New Delhi, May 18: Rabri Devi, a former chief minister of Bihar, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Delhi on Thursday in relation to an alleged land-for-jobs scam.

In connection with the alleged land-for-jobs scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at nine properties on Tuesday, spanning Bihar to Delhi-NCR, that belonged to close associates of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Yadav.

“Raids were conducted at RJD Rajya Sabha MP Prem Chandra Gupta, former RJD MLA Arun Yadav, and RJD MLA Kiran Devi’s residences in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Patna, Bhojpur and Ara in Bihar in connection with the alleged land-for-jobs scam,” CBI said.

The alleged scam took place between 2004 and 2009, whilst Lalu Yadav was the Railway Minister. The chargesheet lists the name of the then Railway General Manager in addition to the RJD leader.

Lalu Prasad Yadav allegedly transferred the candidates’ and their families’ land ownership into the names of his wife Rabri Devi and daughter Misa Bharti for a sale consideration that was significantly less than the going circle rates as well as the going market rates in lieu of getting them hired in the Railways.

In the land-for-jobs scandal, the CBI filed a chargesheet in October of last year against former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, their daughter Misa Bharti, and 13 other people.
