Jamshedpur, June 13 : Several parts of Kolhan region including Jamshedpur and Chaibasa in West Singhbhum were experiencing severe heat wave conditions for the past 24 hours with the Celsius notching six to eight degrees above the normal temperature.
According to Met statistics, Jamshedpur recorded a maximum temperature of 43 degree Celsius, six notches above normal while Chaibasa in West Singhbhum district recorded 42.8 degree Celsius, eight notches above normal.
Maximum temperature six to eight degrees above normal is considered a severe heat wave condition.
To make matters worse Loo, the hot and dry winds also swept across various parts of the state during the past 24- hours.
Weathermen said today’s heat wave is likely to prevail at isolated places over southern, north-western and adjoining central parts of the state.
Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied with strong surface wind (speed: 30-40 kmph) is likely to occur at isolated places over north-eastern parts of the state today.
According to the IMD forecast, heat wave conditions are expected to prevail till June 16, Friday.
The maximum temperature was hovering around 40 degree Celsius in Ranchi, four notches above normal while in Daltonganj the maximum was hovering around 43 degree Celsius .
