Ranchi, July 8: Police today pasted a proclamation notice at the residence of the persons who attempted to grab former Supreme Court judge Justice M.Y Eqbal’s land in the Jharkhand capital.

The action was taken after the accused did not turn up before the court despite issuance of summons and warrants for appearance in the case.

The accused include Pappu Gaddi and Kanja Gaddi. They are residents of Hindpiri.

Officer-in-charge of Lower Bazar police station Dayanand Kumar confirmed the development saying by the notice it has been informed to the accused that if they do not turn up before the court their property will be attached.

The development took place after the Jharkhand High Court took suo moto cognizance in the matter after it came into its knowledge on June 26 through media reports explaining how goons in the presence of police officials made the attempt in broad daylight.

A division bench comprising Justice S Chandrashekhar and Justice Ratnakar Bhengra sought answers from the Ranchi SSP and the Home Department. The court has fixed the date of July 18 for the hearing in the matter.

Havaldar Zainul Ansari, who was deputed for the maintenance of the land in Lower Bazar police station, had registered an FIR in this matter. It has been said in the FIR that on Sunday morning suddenly Junaid Raj Pappu brought 20-25 unknown people and labourers with him and started breaking the wall built on the land of the late judge. These people broke the wall from the front. Meanwhile, the Lower Bazar police station officials reached the spot, and then all the people ran away from the spot. Only laborers were present on the spot.
