Ranchi, July 13: The Jharkhand High Court has imposed a fine of one lakh rupees on a PIL petitioner after it came to its knowledge that the petitioner’s credibility is doubtful.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra passed the order. The petitioner was Kameshwar Prasad, a retired forest department employee. The matter was related to siphoning of funds allotted for forestation.

The advocate who brought the poor credibility of the petitioner into the notice was additional advocate general Sachin Kumar. He said that the petitioner had gone to jail in a case of corruption. His submission came after advocate Rajeev Kumar appearing on behalf of the petitioner submitted before the court that government money was withdrawn with planting of saplings.

The division bench while imposing the fine verbally commented that it was wrong on the part of the petitioner that he hid his credibility and observed that it was misuse of a PIL.
