Jamshedpur, July 13: The wild elephant which trampled a villager to death and inflicted grievous injuries to two others in Seraikela-Kharsawan district’s Rajnagar block on Wednesday has moved into Gamharia block of the district on Thursday.
The desperate elephant which was separated from a herd has moved into the densely-populated areas like Ashingi in the Gamharia block having crossed over the Kharkai river.
As the lone elephant’s behaviour is much more aggressive, the local residents have got wary, leading them to restrict their movement in the area.
Moreover, as the forest department has failed to drive the tusker away from the human habitat, the people are getting increasingly panicked.
On Thursday morning, some people spotted the elephant taking a bath in the Kharkai and subsequently watched it moving towards the Ashingi area which is adjoining to NIT, Jamshedpur under the RIT Thana area in Adityapur.
Significantly, as the forest department officials are doing little in driving the elephant away towards a certain direction, a group of local residents have swung into action for watching the movement of the pachyderm and are keeping fellow residents informed so that at least the lives of the people can be safe from the unseen danger.
