Ranchi, July 13: City resident Bhairav Singh withdrew his PIL questioning power of the speaker to allot a room for offering Namaz in the assembly premises.

Singh informed this saying his advocate took the decision after it came to his knowledge that a petition on the same was pending before the high court and the court was not convinced to merge his matter with another petition.

The matter was listed for hearing before a division bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra.

The matter arose in the year 2021, after a room was allotted for the minorities in the Jharkhand Assembly building to offer Namaz and the BJP, which is the main opposition party of the state, took strong exception to this. This created a controversy between the ruling party and the opposition.

Other than Singh, Ajay Kumar Modi had also filed the petition in the matter. Modi’s petition is in an advanced stage.
