Ramgarh, July 14: The Ramgarh police have seized a truck carrying illegal liquor on secret information received by SP Piyush Pandey. The police have also arrested the driver. The value of the seized liquor is said to be around Rs 10 lakhs. The driver is said to be a resident of Una in Himachal Pradesh.
SDPO Kishore Rajak said at a press conference on Friday afternoon that on the basis of secret information, a team was formed by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer today at Kuju O.P. area of Digwar NH-33 road.
During the checking, Truck No. RUS2GA4959 coming from Ranchi was stopped and on checking the truck, a cotton load was found on it. 309 crates of foreign liquor hidden inside the cotton were caught. On inquiring about the crates of liquor loaded on the vehicle, the driver said that the said liquor was loaded from Rourkela (Odisha) and was going to be consumed in Siliguri (Bengal). On investigation of the truck, it was found that the number of the said truck is fake.
370 bottles of illegal liquor loaded on it were brought to Kuju O.P. for necessary investigation. During the investigation, it came to light that 370 cases of liquor loaded on the said truck were being illegally transported without any valid documents.
The name of the accused arrested in the incident is Gurjit Singh, age 48 years, resident of Harauli district of Himachal Pradesh. The recovered items include a truck (No. RUS 2GA4959), a total of 370 boxes (11,280 bottles) of foreign liquor and documents related to goods loaded on the vehicle.
