New Delhi, July 21: In neighbouring Sri Lanka payments made via India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system will be accepted.

In the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the capital on Friday, a number of agreements were exchanged, including one regarding the acceptance of UPI in the island nation.

In India, the UPI payments system has grown incredibly popular for retail digital payments, and usage is growing quickly.

Until now, India has formed partnerships with France, UAE, and Singapore to collaborate on emerging fintech and payment solutions.

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a mobile-based quick payment system of India that allows users to create their own Virtual Payment Addresses (VPAs) and make round-the-clock immediate payments.
