Daltonganj, July 24: Palamu police is girdling loins to further fine-tune its patrol and vigil. First, it is to execute its pending warrants. Around 1000 warrants lie pending for want of their execution.
The visibility of police in the day is not robust and they become invisible at night here. For five hours at night from 11.30 to 4.30 police presence or visibility is either blurred or not.
SP Chandan Kumar Sinha said, “I and my senior police officers will be doing rounds at night.”
“Police patrol has to be sharpened. It can’t be spending hours sitting in the patrol car. Cops will have to step out of the patrol car and if they meet people in the street in the dead of night, police must ask them the purpose of their movement and not just to wear an aloof look from men in the street in the dead of night,” said the SP.
“Daltonganj town is no industrial town like Jamshedpur where people get signed on and off for duties. Here the night movement of people can at best be for the railway station, bus stand or the hospital. If these movements at night are not observed closely by the police patrol car then it needs to be overhauled.” conceded SP.
There is going to be a simultaneous drive called in police lingo S Drive against the habitual offenders and persons in hiding avoiding execution of warrants reminded the SP.
House theft, burglaries, snatching etc are some of the indices to reflect on the efficacy or effectiveness of the police. These offences are to be contained with very firm hands.
Urban crime and drugs have a very well-knit connection and the town of Daltonganj is slowly plunging into a drug city. Police control of the menace of drugs is pathetically dismal.
Sources said in the past four months there has not been any significant crackdown on drug peddlers and drug victims as where drug victims are traced or tracked, the drug peddlers can’t be any far away. But the town police have its hands full with other jobs.
