Hazaribag, Aug 2: Nandkishore Kumar (32) was in a state of shock after knowing about his wife Manisha Kumari (27) suffering from third-stage cancer. Kumar who was planning to take Manisha to Mumbai for treatment jumped into a well with relatives searching for him for the last three days. On Tuesday, they found his body in the well of Hadari village in Ichak block, where Kumar was living with his family.
Kumar’s younger brother Dineshwar Prasad Mehta said a few days ago, they came to know about the disease of Manisha. “We were told that a big amount needed for the treatment of this disease and from that day only, my brother came in tension. He was in shock to know that Manisha was in the grip of such a serious disease and was seen silent always,” he said
On July 29 evening, Kumar talked to his elder sister Geeta about his plan to leave for Mumbai on Aug 1 with Manisha for her treatment. Late evening, he walked out of his home and didn’t return back. Dineshwar said they searched everywhere but failed to find him. Even his mobile phone was also switched off.
On Tuesday, a group of youths roaming in an area close to Hadari middle school saw a pair of slippers near a well. As they looked into the well, they saw a body floating. Soon villagers reached there and the body was identified as missing Kumar.
Mukhiya Ashok Ram informed the police after which the body was sent for postmortem to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital. Ram termed the incident tragic and said what happened has sparked grief in the area.
