Ranchi: Jharkhand’s Tourism and Urban Development Minister Sudivya Kumar of the JMM passed away following a cardiac arrest early Sunday morning at the age of 56, with party leaders confirming he was admitted to a private hospital late Saturday night and died around 4 am.
Legislator Survived by Wife, Children
Kumar, a legislator from Giridih, is survived by two daughters and a son. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato and several other political leaders expressed deep grief over his demise.
CM Soren Recalls Kumar as an Elder Brother Figure
Soren described Kumar as someone who had stood by him like an elder brother through difficult times, writing on X that Sonu Bhaiya’s departure had left a void in his life that could not be expressed in words. Recalling Kumar’s association with the Jharkhand movement, Soren said he had worked closely with JMM founder Shibu Soren and dedicated his life to the fight for Jharkhand’s identity, rights and dignity, adding that his commitment to Jharkhandiyat and indomitable spirit would always be remembered as a dedicated soldier of the party.
JMM Calls Kumar’s Death an ‘Irreparable Loss’
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha described Kumar’s death as an irreparable loss to the party, the government and the state, stating on X that the party family was stunned and heartbroken by the untimely demise of a dedicated comrade and minister in the Jharkhand government, while extending condolences to his family.
Kumar’s Political Journey and Role Within the Party
Kumar was first elected to the Jharkhand Assembly from Giridih in 2019 and was widely considered a close aide of Chief Minister Soren. He played a key role in managing party affairs during several political crises, including the period following the Chief Minister’s arrest in an alleged land fraud and money laundering case in 2024.
