Dhanbad, Aug 7: The Sikh Welfare Society of Jharkhand has strongly opposed the appointment of a non-Sikh as manager of  Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Gurudwara Nanded, Maharashtra Prabhandhak Committee and demanded the installation of a Gurushik on the post.

Jharkhand Sikh Welfare Society president  Sardar Sewa Singh today shot off a letter to Chief Minister of Maharashtra  Eknath Shine repealing the appointment of a non-Sikh person as manager of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Gurudwara Nanded, Maharashtra keeping the sentiment of Sikh society in India as well as across the world.

The Maharashtra government has appointed  Nanded district collector Abhijit Rajendra (IAS) as chairman of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Gurudwara Nanded.

Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Gurudwara, Nanded, Maharashtra is considered one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for Sikhs.

“Sikhs of Jharkhand strongly oppose the appointment of a non-Sikh (Nanded district collector) as the manager of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Gurudwara Nanded, Maharashtra  Prabhandhak Committee. We appeal to you (Maharashtra government) to withdraw this order as only  Sikh Gurusikhs should be appointed as managers,” said Sardar Sewa Singh in his letter.

The Jharkhand Sikh Welfare Society has also pointed out that only Gursikhs know the ‘Maryada’ of Sikh institutions and Gurudwara and they can protect the ritual which non-Sikh person does not know.
