New Delhi, August 14: 954 police officers have been awarded Police Medals in honour of the 77th Independence Day, which will be observed on Tuesday, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Monday.
The Assistant Commandant of the Central Reserve Police Force, Loukrakpam Ibomcha Singh, has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG), the MHA statement said.
229 police officers have received the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), 82 have received the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM), and 642 have received the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM).
“Among the majority of the 230 Gallantry Awards, 125 personnel from Left Wing Extremism affected areas, 71 personnel from Jammu and Kashmir region and 11 personnel from North East region are being awarded for their gallant action,” the MHA said.
28 are from CRPF, 33 are from Maharashtra, 55 are from Jammu and Kashmir Police, 24 are from Chhattisgarh, 22 are from Telangana, 18 are from Andhra Pradesh and the remaining are from other states, Union Territories (UTs) and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) among receiving gallantry awards.
President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) and Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) are given out for conspicuous bravery that results in the preservation of life and property, the reduction of crime or arresting criminals.
President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM) is given for particularly distinguished performance in the police force and Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM) is given for noteworthy service marked by resourcefulness and devotion to duty.
