Kolkata, Aug 16: Six additional people were detained on Wednesday morning in connection with the student death case at Jadavpur University, bringing the overall number of arrests in the case to nine, police said.

Four persons were detained during operations carried out by several teams of Kolkata Police overnight, an official said.

The individuals taken into custody have been recognized as Md. Arif, a third-year student studying Civil Engineering at Jadavpur University; Md. Asif Azmal, a fourth-year student specializing in Electrical Engineering; and Ankan Sardar, a third-year student also pursuing Civil Engineering at Jadavpur University.

Last night, the Kolkata Police conducted simultaneous searches at various locations in Purbo Medinipur and South 24 Parganas in an effort to apprehend three more suspects.

Asit Sardar, Saptak Kamilya, and Suman Naskar, three former students of Jadavpur University, were identified as the three people who were detained.

Following the event, all three of the ex-students left Kolkata, the police stated. In addition, the sleuths said that all six people who had been detained on Wednesday appeared in court.

In the meantime, the Dean of Students and Registrar from Jadavpur University have been summoned to a meeting with the Joint CP Crime at Lalbazar at 3 pm on Wednesday, as mentioned by the officer.

Swarnodip Kundu, a first-year student at Jadavpur University, passed away on August 10 after allegedly falling from the hostel’s balcony on the night of August 9.
