New Delhi, Aug 16: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs authorized seven projects for the Ministry of Railways on Wednesday. The projects are expected to cost roughly Rs 32,500 crore, and the central government would pay them entirely.

Addressing the press following the union cabinet meeting, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw explained that the multi-tracking plans will streamline operations and alleviate congestion, offering crucial infrastructure enhancements on the most heavily utilized segments of the Indian railway network.

The projects, which include 35 districts in nine states (Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal), will extend the Indian Railways’ current network by 2339 km and generate 7.06 crore man-days of employment for the residents of the states.

“The Railways being environment-friendly and energy-efficient mode of transportation, will help both in achieving climate goals and for reducing logistics cost of the country. The projects are in line with Prime Minister’s Vision of a New India which will make people of the region ‘Atmanirbhar’ by creating a multi-tasking workforce in the region and will enhance their employment and self-employment opportunities,” an official release said.
