Ranchi, Aug.24: At least four FIRs were registered today against BJP state president and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi for allegedly using hateful and derogatory words against Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his father and Rajya Sabha member Dishom Guru Shibu Soren.

The FIRs were registered in Ranchi, Simdega, Latehar and Deoghar.

In Ranchi, Sonu Tirkey, a Kanke resident, knocked at the Kanke police station’s door, to take action against Marandi saying that the BJP leader’s words given for political advantage hurt the tribal society.

The FIRs surfaced after Marandi during his ‘Sankalp Rally’ in Santhal Pargana targeted Soren and his father with many words suggesting they were involved in various corruptions and loot of tribal land.

Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police Kishore Kaushal confirmed the FIR. “IPC sections under which police lodged an FIR include 500, 505, and 504(2) of Indian Penal Code (IPS),” he said.

Section 500 of IPC provided that whoever defames another shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both

Section 504(2) of IPC provides punishment for insulting someone intentionally to provoke them, with the knowledge that the provocation caused by their insult can induce the person to commit an offence or act in a way that can breach the peace of the public.

Section 505 of IPC if provided for the same whoever makes or circulates statements or rumours with intent to cause mutiny or fear among military personnel, incite offenses against the State or public tranquility, or promote hatred between different religious or social groups can be punished with imprisonment up to three years, or with a fine, or both; and if committed in a place of worship, the punishment can extend up to five years with a fine.
