Jamshedpur, Aug 25: Two bodies, including that of a seven-year-old boy, were recovered from Kharkai and Subarnarekha rivers along the Jugsalai and Mango thana areas of the city on Friday morning.
The bodies were identified as Hemant Sharma (40), a resident of Jugsalai and Laxman Machua (7), a resident of Shastrinagar in Kadma.
Laxman drowned in the Kharkai River near his house on Thursday afternoon when he was taking a bath in the river along with his mother. As the river was swollen having a strong current, the child was swept away before anyone could save him.
The police and the family members had subsequently tried to locate the body by making frantic attempts throughout the day, but it was found floating in the Subarnarekha along the Mango thana area this morning.
The police recovered the body and shifted it to MGM Medical College mortuary for postmortem after getting it identified by the victim’s family members.
Laxman was a student of Kerala Public School in Kadma.
The body of Hemant Sharma was found in the Kharkai River along Parvati Ghaat under the Jugsalai thana area this morning.
Hemant Sharma who was a businessman had come out of his house at Naya Bazar in Jugsalai by his bike on Wednesday afternoon but did not return home, leading the family members to search for him extensively.
Sub-inspector Kamu Paswan of the Jugsalai thana said Hemant Sharma committed suicide by jumping into the Kharkai.
“Hemant Sharma had taken excessive loans but was unable to pay back. This is why he had gone into depression and thus finally committed suicide by drowning in the swollen Kharkai, ” said the sub-inspector while talking to lagatar24.com, adding that the body has been sent to the medical college mortuary for postmortem.
