Dispur, Sep 11: Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, attended the opening day of the Autumn Session on Monday at the newly built Assam Assembly Building in Dispur.
The Assam Legislative Assembly’s five-day Autumn Session began on Monday.
The session will see the introduction of a number of bills, including the Panchayati Raj amendment bill and many bills pertaining to universities.
The five-day assembly session has been given strict security precautions.
The new Assam Legislative Assembly building in Guwahati was officially inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on 30 July.
By drawing a comparison to the recently opened New Parliament Building, Birla recognised that the new Assam Legislative building served as both a representation of the new, independent Assam and an emblem of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
“The new building built for modern requirements using the latest technology is equipped with the latest amenities and boasts of state of the art facility and at the same time exhibits facets of diversity of culture exhibiting Assam’s rich heritage”, Birla said.
Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma; Assam Assembly Speaker, Biswajit Daimary; Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways & Ayush, Sarbanand Sonowal; Minister of State in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rameshwar Teli, as well as other dignitaries, legislators and representatives from different political parties attended the event.
