Jamshedpur, Sept 30: A 21-year-old youth Avinash Kumar Jha, who was a medical student, died of dengue at Tata Main Hospital on Friday, making the number of deaths caused by the dengue in Jamshedpur officially 10.
A resident of Baba Kutir in Adityapur, Avinash was a first-year student of ESIC Karnataka Medical College and was admitted at the Tata Main Hospital a week ago.
Despite all attempts, the budding doctor who was the son of IN Jha succumbed to his illness on Friday evening, causing his parents and siblings to get shell-shocked.
A day earlier, an eight-year-old boy died of the killer virus at the Tata Main Hospital.
District civil surgeon, Jujhar Majhi said so far 10 persons have died of dengue in various hospitals in the steel city.
“Of the 10 dengue deaths, seven were due to comorbidity, and three deaths were caused by pure dengue,” said Majhi while talking to lagatar24.com.
The civil surgeon stated that out of about 7,000 tests conducted in designated health hubs in the steel city, over 1,000 samples have been tested positive.
He pointed out the variant of the dengue virus has changed in the current spell of the viral fever. Bleeding through the nose or mouth is taking place in those who are suffering from severe dengue.
A person falls victim to dengue fever due to the bite of an infected mosquito.
Concerned with the spread of the cases of dengue, Tata Steel’s subsidiary JUSCO has started a more aggressive drive against the mosquitoes, though the utility company carries out such exercises round the year in the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee command area routinely.
