Dhanbad, Oct 4: In a family dispute, a wife hacked her husband to death and jumped into a well to commit suicide in the Damodarpur area under the Sadar police station early morning today.

A police official said that the woman identified as Saraswati Devi, mother of two children, was rescued and admitted to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) where she is said to be out of danger.

The neighbours of the victim’s family said the incident is believed to have happened at late night on Tuesday. Both wife and husband were heard quarrelling right from the evening of Tuesday and all of a sudden eerie silence prevailed in the house.

In the morning, on being notified by children, neighbours spotted the hacked body of husband Ajit Hansda in a room and his wife absconding. A blood-soaked axe used in the crime was also found in the room. After the killing, the wife covered the body with cloth.

The Sadar police station was duly informed. The team of police reached the spot and took the body in possession for post-mortem.

After the incident wife Saraswati Devi fled away from the spot and jumped into a nearby well. In the morning, when women of the area went to take water from the well they found  Saraswati Devi struggling.
