SNMMCH Dhanbad holds White Coat ceremony for 1st year MBBS students

Dhanbad, Oct 13: Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad on Friday held a ‘ White Coat’ ceremony for the newly admitted 100 MBBS students of the 2023 academic session and guided them.

SNMMCH principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad and superintendent Dr Anil Kumar briefed the students about the significance of the ‘White Coat’ ceremony in the life of doctors and said that it is their entrance into the medical profession.

The ‘White Coat ‘ ceremony is organized every year for new batch students of a medical college in which a white coat is placed on the shoulders of students, a mark of the medical profession.

During the ceremony Principal, Superintendent and senior faculty members also administered the Hippocratic Oath to students.

Admission of 2023 batch students in medical colleges across the country concluded on September 30. Though classes started on  September 1, most of the colleges in the state held a ceremony last month.

At SNMMCH, the coordinator of the programme ( senior professor) Dr Shashi Bala Nag conducted the ceremony in which besides, principal al HoDs, senior faculty members were present and briefed the newly enrolled students about the importance and responsibility after wearing ‘White Coat’.

On the occasion, while guiding the students, principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad said that students are not just students albeit physicians in training. “Everything you learn here in the next four years will help you to treat and tackle the patients,” he added.

“White Coat is not an ordinary event but it symbolizes a sense of commitment to serving the patients”, said the principal.

Coordinator Dr Shash Bala Nag said that the ceremony became most successful from the cooperation of all HoDs,  faculty members, senior students, and others.
