Imphal, Oct 20: Three successful operations in various sections of Manipur by the joint Columns of security forces consisting of the Indian Army, Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force, and Border Security Force resulted in the recovery of weapons, according to a formal statement released by the Defence PRO on Friday.
The Defence PRO further stated that throughout the process, a total of 18 automatic weapons, 1085 bombs, 14 improvised mortars and rocket launchers, and other weapons were found.
“6 Rifles/ Pistols, one Mortar, 530 assorted ammunition and 132 other war-like stores,” an official statement said.
The security forces responded to intelligence reports indicating the presence of weapons and ammunition in some areas of the state, according to the official statement.
“Khamenlok – Gwalthabi, Wakan and Shantipur ridges separate different villages of two warring communities in Imphal east. Intelligence reports were indicative of the build-up of weapons, ammunition and other war-like store caches by both the communities on either side of the ridges. The caches were probably being built up by inimical elements for attempting misadventure in each other’s area,” as per an official statement.
“The security forces took note of the intelligence inputs and carried out extensive surveillance and launched multiple search operations to recover maximum war-like stores with an aim to thwart any attempts of firing or arson by miscreants,” it added.
The Defense PRO stated that the concerted and unwavering actions of various security forces, including the Indian Army, in conducting search and clearance operations in Manipur have played a significant role in reassuring the Manipur residents of a swift restoration of peace and normalcy in the region.
