Rajouri/Jammu: A significant terror attack was repelled by the Indian Army early this morning in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. Initial reports indicate that a soldier was injured in the predawn raid on an army camp. Following the attack, a massive search operation was launched to locate and neutralize the terrorists, according to a defense spokesman.

This incident occurs amidst a surge of terror attacks in the Jammu region, intensifying security concerns.

The attack was reported less than 24 hours after Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited Jammu to discuss strategies for countering the recent increase in major terrorist attacks on the army in the region, which had been largely free from terrorism until a few years ago.

Sources say a heavily armed group of terrorists targeted an army camp in Gunda village. The firing began around 4 a.m. and lasted for over an hour.

Although the army’s strong retaliation forced the attackers to flee, this marks another bold assault on the army in the region.

On Friday, a temporary army camp set up in a school was subjected to heavy gunfire and grenades in Doda district. In the same area, four soldiers, including a captain, were killed last week, just days after five soldiers were killed in an ambush in Kathua.

The army has already deployed additional troops, including special forces commandos, in the Jammu region to combat the highly trained terrorists who have infiltrated the area and continue to launch attacks on the army.

Over the past 32 months, 48 army soldiers have been killed in terrorist attacks in Jammu. Following almost every attack, the terrorists manage to escape without sustaining any casualties.

Last week, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting of the cabinet committee on security to address the rise in terrorist attacks in Jammu. Previously, the Prime Minister had directed the army to utilize its full spectrum of anti-terrorist capabilities to eradicate terrorism from the Jammu region.

Despite extensive cordon and search operations by security forces in various areas of Jammu, the attacks persist.
